Trileche

The "Trileche" cake rightly becomes very popular. Once you take a bite, you would want to prepare it as often as possible. The cake is named after the three milks used to prepare the topping.

My mother is visiting with us in Budapest. I always take advantage of her while she is here, to prepare something I dared not prepare without her (she will laugh once she reads this). I eat the Trileche cake at home, in Skopje. It is available in restaurants, patisseries and is really tasty. I honestly didn't think it was that easy to make.

Trileche

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg whites
  • 200 gr. sugar
  • 300 gr. flour
  • 1 baking powder

Topping:
  • 500 ml. cooking cream
  • 1½ liter of milk
  • 250 gr. milk powder

Caramel:
  • 200 gr. sugar
  • 80 gr. butter
  • 150 ml cooking cream

Preparation:

Whisk the egg whites with the sugar, add the egg yolks and the flour mixed with the baking powder. Bake the dough on paper at 180 degrees. Remove the baked dough from the tray, pour it into the tray with 250 ml. cooking cream, return the dough and pour milk mixed with powdered milk and 250 ml. cooking cream. The dough is pricked with a fork before pouring. Allow the liquid to absorb. Topping: the sugar melts and the caramel is made by constant stirring. Add the butter and cooking cream. Pour the cooled caramel over the cake.

Burek

Martin wanted Burek. Now, if I were at home in Skopje, I would just wish for it and get it in the first bakery I see...
