Vlach Pie

I cried while taking this picture. So many beauties from my home country... Vlach pie made me even more proud of my Macedonia.

Vlach Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ liter of condensed milk
  • 1 cup of cooking oil
  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cube of margarine or substitute 250 g of lard

 

Filling:
  • 350 gr. cheese

Preparation:

First, the yeast rises in lukewarm milk with sugar. The flour is sprinkled and the dough is kneaded with the other ingredients and immediately divided into 3 balls. Each one is rolled out in a crust, spread with lard or margarine, folded in an envelope and rolled out into a rectangular crust, long and wide as the baking tray. Put cheese on each rolled out crust, i.e. the on the first and second, the third one is empty. Cut into stripes, turn and arrange in a greased tray. The pie soaks for 1 hour. Coat with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 200C for about 40 minutes.
