Baked beans dish

I'm not a beans specialist, to be honest for a long time I wasn’t a beans fan. I admit, I underestimated it. In addition to its nutritional energy value, beans also contain lecithin, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and sodium. It is an excellent source of protein, low in fat and cholesterol. Enough, I convinced you that you should put beans more often to your menu.

Tavce gravce is a traditional Macedonian specialty. It is prepared from fresh Macedonian beans and can be ordered in almost all Macedonian national restaurants. It is served in earthenware bowls. In order to be tasty the baked beans need slow cooking, much like the boiled beans, in fact, many Macedonian traditional dishes require time to prepare.

Baked beans dish

Ingredients:

  • 300 gr. of beans
  • 2 onions
  • Bay laurel
  • Garlic
  • 1 cup of tablespoon flour
  • 1 лажица чадена црвена пипер
  • Salt
  • Mint (Optional)

Preparation:

First, I wash the beans and soak it in water overnight to swell, to cook faster. I through away the first water upon simmer. Boil the beans with the onion and bay leaf. Once it is cooked, about 2 hours on low heat, put on oil the crushed garlic, add a tablespoon of flour and very quickly add red pepper (to prevent pepper burn). Do not fry just mix it with the beans and pour them with the water in which it was boiled in a preferably earthenware pan, and bake in the oven at approximately 250 degrees for 40 minutes. Be careful not to let it dry out. If desired, at the end, line the beans with sausages, slightly sliced and bake them together.
